Gospel Reading: Luke 1:39-45 (RSV-2CE)
“In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.’”
Reflection
On the sixth day of Simbang Gabi, we reflect on the joyful encounter between Mary and Elizabeth. When Mary visits her relative Elizabeth, the unborn John leaps in her womb at the presence of the Savior. Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, recognizes the greatness of Mary and the child she carries, proclaiming her blessed.
This passage reminds us of the profound joy that comes with recognizing God’s presence in our lives. Both women, in their own ways, show us the importance of faith and how God works in unexpected ways. Elizabeth’s words, “Blessed is she who believed,” echo the power of trusting God’s promises, even when they seem impossible.
As we continue our Advent journey, like Mary and Elizabeth, we are called to recognize and celebrate God’s work in our lives. Let us open our hearts to His presence, rejoice in His goodness, and share that joy with others, just as Mary and Elizabeth did.
Reflection Question:
How can I recognize and celebrate God’s presence in my life today, and how can I share that joy with others?
