“What God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Matthew 19:6)
“I love you forever.” This simple yet profound line, spoken by a priest during a homily, has stayed with me. He was preaching about God’s unconditional love for us and how we’re called to love our neighbors just as the Lord loves us. I don’t recall the exact date and time, but I do remember that homily. My ex-girlfriend (now my wife) was with me at that Mass, and we looked at each other and said, “I love you forever.” then smile. From that day forward, whenever I feel deeply in love with her, I tell her, “I love you forever.”
Of course, I’m not a perfect husband, but I know in my heart and mind that Jessica, my wife, is my forever love, my one and only. No one will separate us from our marriage, as the Bible says: “What God has joined together, let no one separate.” (Matthew 19:6).
What is love?
As St. Thomas Aquinas said, “To love is to will the good of the other.”
Others say, “Love is not a feeling; it is a commitment.”
True love requires sacrifice and a lifelong decision to love our spouse through all seasons.
As we approach our 4th wedding anniversary, I feel more in love with my wife every day. The more I express my love, the deeper that love grows. I’ve come to realize that challenges will always come our way, but by staying true to our marriage vows—to be faithful in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, and to love and honor each other all the days of our lives—we have the Lord’s promise to sustain us. I know that the Lord will never abandon us in our struggles and will bless our marriage with the strength we need when we are weak.
My constant prayer is that when hardships arise, the Lord will guide and enlighten us through the Holy Spirit as we journey together as husband and wife.
To my wife, Jessica:
I love you with all my heart. Know that I will forever be by your side. I love you forever, my Lover. Happy 4th wedding anniversary.
