While my family and I were on our way home from church and visiting my mother, my two-year-old son said that he was scared of the dark. (It was already nighttime when we went home). I told him, “Why be afraid? Jesus is with you, He is in your heart.” I then placed his hand on his chest and said,
Me: “Jesus is always with you in your heart.”
My son said,
Ignatius: “Jesus is here?” While touching his chest
Me: “Yes, Jesus is there.”
A few days passed, and I had forgotten what I told my son.
One afternoon, after we prayed at the Adoration Chapel, my son and I stayed for a while in front of the chapel while he ran around and played. I thought of asking him,
Me: “Ignatius, do you love Jesus?”
Ignatius: “Yes, I love Jesus.”
Me: “Where is Jesus?” (I didn’t remember what I had told him that night; I was expecting him to point to the adoration chapel since we had just been there)
Ignatius: Here, Jesus is here.” (He said this while holding his chest)
I smiled and laughed because I suddenly remembered what I had taught him.
As a parent, I realized how important the things we teach and show to our children are. That’s why it is crucial to watch what they see and hear.
My prayer is that my children grow up with overflowing love for Jesus.
To God be the glory. Viva Cristo Rey!
